After weeks of pressure and turmoil, President Joe Biden announced on Sunday that he is dropping out of the 2024 presidential race.

"It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President,” Biden wrote in a memo posted to X. "And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term."

In addition to dropping of the race, the 46th President announced his support to Vice President Kamal Harris.

Biden's decision arrives only a few weeks after the President debated former President Donald Trump. After his poorly-received debate performance, many Democrats called for the current president to end his re-election bid.
