The church always does an excellent job when they take on a new song, and “Sweetest Name I Know” is no exception. The music and harmonies all come together to create a great, smooth sound. 

First, Clarksville’s worship leader chose a song with truly incredible lyrics. The song was written in 2024 by Charity Gayle, Will Yates, Crystal Yates, and David Gentiles. Some of the words in the song go:

Charity said of writing “Sweetest Name I Know” and other songs on her Rejoice album, “We started to notice the joy we would have in the midst of our storms when we wrote songs… because they were truths of God’s word to remind ourselves that our God is bigger than our circumstances and still worthy of praise in spite of them!”

He then goes on to talk about how he included Hebrew in this rendition of ‘O Come O Come Emmanuel.’

“In this version, I’ve woven in part of the ancient Hebrew Shema — ‘Hear, O Israel: the Lord our God, the Lord is One.’ Because from the beginning, God’s people have declared His oneness, His faithfulness, and His promise to dwell among us. Along with his music, Stephen's testimony of Jesus taking Him from addiction to redemption is a central part of his ministry. He used to be a meth addict, but his life turned around once he put his faith in Jesus, and he hasn’t looked back since!

The music video for this mashup was filmed in May 2025 when the BYU Young Ambassadors were on tour in Brazil. Some of the film site locations include the majestic São Paulo Metropolitan Cathedral, awe-inspiring Iguazu Falls, and Rio's breathtaking Copacabana Beach. 

As for the background of the hymn ‘It Is Well With My Soul,’ it was written by Horatio Spafford and composed by Philip Bliss. And the beautiful words of the song were written after traumatic events that happened in Horatio’s life.

During the great Chicago Fire of 1871, Horatio Spafford lost his entire fortune, and his son even died shortly before the fire. More heartbreaking events soon followed.

Hymnologist Kenneth Osbeck tells the story: “Desiring a rest for his wife and four daughters, Spafford planned a European trip for his family in 1873. In November of that year, due to unexpected last-minute business developments, he had to remain in Chicago, but sent his wife and four daughters on ahead as scheduled on the S.S. Ville du Havre. He expected to follow in a few days. On November 22, the ship was struck by the Lochearn, an English vessel, and sank in twelve minutes. Several days later, the survivors were finally landed at Cardiff, Wales, and Mrs. Spafford cabled her husband, ‘Saved alone.’” 

‘It Is Well With My Soul’ was said to have been written by Horatio on his journey to go join his wife, in the area of the ocean where the ship carrying his daughters had sunk. What an incredible song to be written out of such heartbreak.

And reminding people that we serve a God who is faithful, even if we’re faithless. He is faithful to us. He’s an Always God.”

When it comes to the hymn ‘In The Garden,’ this is one song that is enormously popular. It is almost impossible to find it omitted from any standard hymnal, and more than a million recordings and printed copies of it have been sold.

The man who wrote this beloved hymn was C. Austin Miles. He had attended the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and the University of Pennsylvania to become a pharmacist, but he abandoned that career in 1892 when he wrote his first Gospel song.

He said of himself, "It is as a writer of gospel songs I am proud to be known, for in that way I may be of the most use to my master, whom I serve willingly although not as efficiently as is my desire."
