RICH MULLINS was an amazing artist, philosopher, minister and writer. He’s probably best known for the song AWESOME GOD from the late 80s. In the 90s he moved to minister on the Navajo nation. In 1995 he drove his jeep down to Phoenix to do an interview with VIDEO ZONE. (He had a flat tire on the way to the studio and we had to cool him down from the AZ heat before we started.)
VIDEO ZONE’s producer Donald T. Woodard commented; “Rich was amazing to talk to. You might ask a question like ‘what color is the sky?’ and Rich would talk about it for five minutes. You still wouldn’t know what color the sky is, but you didn’t care because what he talked about was so amazing”.
Exactly two years after the VIDEO ZONE shows featuring Rich aired, he was killed in an accident in that same jeep on his way to a concert.
We were fortunate to spend so much time with Rich and from that time came three SPOTLIGHTS.
From 1990 until 2019, VIDEO ZONE was one of the leading Christian music video shows on TV.
Broadcasting first on TV in Phoenix, then across Arizona and then Nationally, VIDEO ZONE was produced by Donald T. Woodard and hosted by DW Thomas.
The basic concept behind VIDEO ZONE was to give viewers a variety of Christian music artists in a quality show. The SPOTLIGHT on each show was a chance for viewers to get a deeper look at a specific artist through interviews and music sweeps.
