This song was written by me a few years ago when I was learning not to place my trust in people rather than in God. Because people aren't perfect, there's always going to be disappointment. Only God, in his infinite goodness, will never let us down. Sometimes the things we pray for that we know are God's will seem to take forever to happen. God needs to be in control of the situation and wants us to trust Him. His timing is perfect. How long are we willing to hold on for an answer? How long must we pray and wait and wait and pray? I believe that sometimes God just wants us to be faithful, and He can give us the patience to endure. Learning to trust without fear is a great blessing.
This song is one that I wrote a few years ago. I remember sitting in my dining room looking out my big windows at the sun shining in. When I began to think about everything God has created, I was struck with how big and awesome and great He truly is. A few words in a song don't express it, but my hope was to voice praise to Him for all that He is. This is the result of that moment.
Sometimes we have needs so deep and so heart-wrenching that we only see despair. This song is one that I wrote during a time of financial discouragement. I couldn't see the end of the tunnel, I didn't have the answers, I couldn't depend on anyone but Jesus. He was my life, my very breath. My husband was working late hours. After I got the kids to bed at night, I had time to pray and reflect and sing. Somehow the burden I felt I carried all alone seemed lighter when I took it to the cross.
Fill Me Up is a song I wrote after the birth of my 3rd child. My oldest daughter was 4, my son was 13 months, and I had a newborn baby girl. When the baby was 10 days old, my husband left for a job in a city 2 hours away and was gone all week long, only home on weekends. Even though my parents were close, I felt so alone. It was my husband I longed for in the wee small hours of the morning when the babies were awake, but it was Jesus who got me through. I slept 2-3 hours a night. My son wasn't sleeping through the night, and of course the baby wasn't. I was SO tired... I came to cherish my coffee in the morning, naptime and bedtime. My sanity only lasted a few hours at a time. When Jesus fed the crowd of 5,000 with 12 loaves and 2 fishes, there was dinner left over. He filled the people up with extra to spare. I realized during this lonely, very sleepy time in my life that I needed Christ's fullness more than I needed my coffee or a nap. The routine I created for my kids which gave me
My whole life, I've been taught to lean on Jesus and trust Him, no matter what I face. When someone close to me says they don't believe anymore that God has their best interest at heart, MY heart breaks. I have found that the sun will shine again, the good will make itself known, and God is God, indeed.
Sometimes the bleeding places that are starting to scab get bumped. But even when life's not fair, God is good. God is good ALL the time, and even though He knows everything, He wants to know how much we trust Him. I can't explain why things happen, and I can't explain how not to worry. All I can do is trust, and pray that my loved ones will trust also...
I wrote this song as an expression of the deep ache in my heart for my loved ones who desperately need to believe that God really is love. Maybe if you're doubting, too, you can ask God to help you choose to trust Him.
