High school students gave their beautiful take on the classic hymn “At Calvary.” This is one rendition of the familiar tune near and dear to the hearts of many that you’ll likely find yourself returning to again and again. Watch the short, awe-inspiring clip to see and hear the gifted group of young people perform “At Calvary.”

Contemporary Christian music is terrific, incredibly popular and there are some genuinely fantastic, talented artists in that genre. Many churches have even started pulling away from hymns, instead filling their praise and worship services with those modern Christian songs.
If Contemporary Christian music is what you’re into and what you’d rather hear, then great. 
Have at it. However, is there anyone who honestly does not love hearing those beloved church hymns? Those classic hymns will forever and always top Contemporary Christian music. There is simply no competition between the two.

Hymns are so powerfully and wonderfully written. They evoke strong emotional responses from listeners every time, often bringing tears to the eyes. And it doesn’t matter if you’ve heard a hymn five or 500 times; they will never get old and tired.

In a clip posted on YouTube, a group of Fountainview Academy students performed the hymn “At Calvary.” While this is a hymn that many are no doubt familiar with and have heard hundreds, possibly even thousands of times, this rendition of the timeless tune has to be one of the best you’ve ever heard.

The abundance of musical talent, combined with the hymn's wonderful, powerful lyrics, makes for a lovely and simply dazzling listening experience. It will be nearly impossible not to get emotional while watching and listening to this short clip. Soon enough, you’ll find yourself singing those familiar and beautiful lyrics.

The hymn is so beloved because it describes a place where we have been at one time or another. We are all sinners, but because of His grace, mercy and love, we have been forgiven.

What a wonderful cover of this lovely hymn. 'Jesus, Strong and Kind' was written by CityAlight (Rich Thompson, Jonny Robinson, Michael Farren) and Colin Buchanan and was released in December 2019. The song is a simple invitation to find our strength in Jesus, no matter what we are going through.

The song’s lyrics remind us of Jesus’s promise that He is able and willing to offer ultimate sustenance and relief in our times of need and that nothing will ever fully satisfy us the way Jesus can. The simple chorus also reminds us of God’s faithfulness to us at all times.

Trio’s Soul-Stirring Version of ‘What a Friend We Have In Jesus’

Listen to this talented trio’s soul-stirring version of the hymn ‘What a Friend We Have In Jesus.’ The musicians in this video are Anissa Burnett on vocals and guitar, Anneli Burnett on lead vocals, and Geary Allen on vocals and guitar. This was such a great performance of this beautiful hymn. And the lyrics are a great reminder to us all that we can place our trust in our Heavenly Father.

As for the background of ‘What a Friend We Have In Jesus,’ the story is very powerful. It was written in 1855 by Joseph Scriven, a transplanted Irishman in Canada. He was born in Ireland in 1819 and enjoyed wealth, education, a devoted family, and a pleasant life in his native country.

After college, he established himself as a teacher, fell in love, and was to be married. But his fiancée ended up drowning, and the only place that Joseph found solace was in Jesus.

Joseph then left for Canada to start a new life and fell in love with a woman named Eliza Rice in Port Hope. But she became sick and also died before Joseph, and she were married. Joseph’s faith was the only thing that brought him through this tragic time. After a lot of time spent in prayer, Joseph took a vow of poverty, sold all of his earthly possessions, and vowed to give his life to the physically handicapped and financially destitute. He became known as “The Good Samaritan of Port Hope.”

Later in his life, when Joseph became ill, a friend visiting him found a poem beside his bed. He asked who had written it, and Joseph responded, saying, "The Lord and I did it between us.” After his death, the poem was put to music by Charles Converse and is the hymn we know and love today.

This scripture serves as a powerful reminder that we can rise above worldly noise through faith in Christ.

The song ‘Break Open’ by Pat Barrett is from his upcoming album and was written to encourage and uplift those feeling burdened by life’s pressures. Pat shares how the song came about and what he hopes listeners take away from it.

"This song is long-awaited on my end, and I’m so stoked it’s out," shares Pat Barrett. "I’ve recorded it twice before, but it just never lined up to be the right thing or the right time. What a talented band! We The Kingdom consists of multiple generations of relatives, and the band's name comes from the idea that "the kingdom of God is here among us." 

Their Song, Rescue Me, Began Years Ago 

The song ‘Rescue Me’ originally began years ago with drummer Martin Cash, who wrote the melody and lyrics while still in high school. Now the song has finally come to life and is part of We The Kingdom’s new album titled Dear Jesus.
